How to Measure for a Rear Window Graphic

Rear windows often taper toward the top, curve at the corners, and include wipers, hinges, defroster lines, brake lights, or trim. Because of that, a simple maximum width and height measurement is only the starting point. Measure the visible glass area from inside the surrounding trim and note where the shape narrows.

Take width measurements at more than one height if the glass is trapezoidal. Measure the lower usable width, the upper usable width, and the center height. This gives you a much better sense of whether a standard graphic size will fit and how much trimming or positioning flexibility is available.

Keep important artwork away from the extreme edges. Text and focal images should sit in the central safe area so they are not cut off by the taper or hidden behind a wiper. If the window includes a center brake light or hardware, measure that obstruction separately and account for it in placement.

Always preserve safe rear visibility and follow applicable local requirements. When you compare your measurements with available product sizes, choose the size that fits the usable glass rather than the raw outer dimensions.
